Tithing - What your pastor won’t tell you

Last week we gave you a sneak peek of chapter six from my upcoming book, "Clever Lies and Assumptions from the Pulpit to the Pews," entitled Tithing - What your pastor failed to tell you. This week I want to give you a sneak peek into chapter seven entitled, "Tithing - What your pastor won't tell you."

Are Christians offered or promised a physical blessing if, and when they tithe? Despite what you may have been told, the answer is NO!

“You don’t tithe, you won’t be blessed.” How many times have you heard this? God is not the author of confusion, it is the leadership motivated by ego, self promotion, greed and ignorance over many decades that has caused much confusion concerning tithing, its origin, purpose and intent. Galatians is important in answering the above question, because it proves two things: either what Paul said to the Gentiles was a lie, or what is being preached and taught over most pulpits, is a lie. You decide.

The Bible tells us that we perish from the lack of knowledge. The ignorance of the church makes it easier and more profitable to control people through guilt and obligation. If it did not take the law to be filled with the Spirit of God, how in the world can tithing, which is under the law, help you perfect your Christian walk? Paul asked the Galatians this question,

“Does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the Law of Moses? Check out his answer. “Of course not?” Galatians 3:5(NLT)

He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (KJV)

Galatians chapter 3 is significant because it will show us that our blessings and miracles as Christians have nothing to do with whether we tithe or not. One of the reasons why this subject is misused and taught incorrectly is because many in leadership confuse tithing with New Testament giving. There is NOTHING in Scripture that says that Christian blessings were, or are contingent on the paying of tithes. We will discuss the differences between tithing, offering and giving, later in this book. (There is a difference, both in meaning and the act.)

If, or when we teach and believe that we are offered or promised a physical blessing when we tithe, Paul says in Galatians 3:10, that “We are depending on the law to make us right with God.” He goes on to say that if we do, we are under the curse of Christ. He says this because, like today’s Christians, the Galatians were picking and choosing the parts of the Law that they liked. Modern day Church leaders love tithing, but you will not see them stone anyone for adultery, even though that’s part of the law, and it is obvious that today animal sacrifice has no application to the Christian, even though, that too is under the law. You will not see the church give a tenth of all their earnings to the poor every three years, even though that’s part of the law as well.

Paul says in so many words, if you are going to hold on to the law to make you right with God, it should be all of the law or none at all, but even in that, Paul goes on to say in Galatians 3 verse 11, “Consequently, it is clear that no one can ever be right with God by trying to keep the law.” (NLT)
